Episode #21: Nurturing To Your Inner Child
Read or Listen!
I want to talk to you about something that has brought so much joy and growth into my life: nurturing my inner child. This concept might sound a little out there, but trust me, it's a powerful tool that can help you in so many ways. So, let's dive in and explore the magic of connecting with our younger selves.
Understanding Inner Child Work
Have you ever heard of inner child work? It's the idea that within each of us, there's a younger version of ourselves that still needs love and care. This practice involves checking in with that inner child and addressing any unmet needs from our past.
Connecting with Your Inner Child
Connecting with your inner child might look different for everyone, but I'll share my own experience to give you an idea of how it works. One clue that it's time to check in is when you have a bigger emotional reaction than a situation does not warrants. When I am having a big response I will ask myself, "How old am I right now?" and visualizing myself as that age. This is where you can begin a conversation with your inner child. It's a form of re-parenting, where you provide the care and understanding that may have been lacking during your childhood.
Embracing Compassion and Kindness
I used to believe that confidence came from being the perfect version of myself. But I've come to learn that true confidence stems from being kind and compassionate to ourselves. By nurturing our inner child, we can practice self-compassion and learn to accept and love ourselves as we are.
Benefits of Nurturing Your Inner Child
Nurturing your inner child brings a multitude of benefits. Firstly, it helps you take responsibility for yourself and empowers you to navigate through life's challenges. Secondly, it deepens your self-connection and self-awareness, allowing you to embrace all aspects of who you are. Additionally, engaging in activities that once brought you joy as a child can reignite your sense of playfulness and excitement. It's a beautiful way to enrich your life and experience the full range of human emotions.
Permission to Play and Grow
One of the joys of connecting with your inner child is the permission to play, have fun, and get excited about life. Children naturally express themselves without societal rules or conditions. By tapping into that childlike wonder, you can infuse your daily experiences with more joy and enthusiasm. So, let go of inhibitions and give yourself the freedom to explore and enjoy life to the fullest.
By reconnecting with that younger version of yourself, you can embrace self-compassion, and experience life with a renewed sense of wonder. So, why not give it a try? Start engaging with your inner child and watch as it brings more joy, growth, and fulfillment to your life. Remember, you deserve the love and care you provide yourself.
XO,
Ellie Curry
