Episode 3 of Own Your Confidence Podcast: The Secret To Getting Unstoppable Confidence
Hi there, I'm Ellie Curry, and I want to share with you my journey to gaining unstoppable confidence. When I first started my confidence journey, I was fresh out of college, and my self-esteem and mental health were taking a nose dive. I remember having a complete meltdown and thinking that life was not meant to be lived that way. I decided to embark on a journey of self-discovery, and in the past eight years or so, confidence has become a significant part of my life.
In this article, I'll talk about the two different types of confidence and how to grow your internal and external confidence.
Internal Confidence: Knowing Yourself
The first type of confidence is internal confidence, which is all about knowing yourself. It starts with taking the time to get to know yourself better, including understanding what lights you up in life, what makes you dream, what triggers you, and what your fears are. This is an ongoing process, and you need to be willing to quit the outside world for a while to reconnect with yourself and feel everything around you.
It's crucial to give yourself permission to compliment yourself, even if it's uncomfortable at first. It was hard for me to tell myself that I liked who I was and that I was a cool person. But eventually, I tapped back into who I really am, and I realized that there are so many amazing qualities about me, as well as beautiful messiness.
Treating Yourself with Kindness
Treating yourself with kindness is a crucial part of growing your internal confidence. You have to start building awareness of how you currently treat yourself because awareness is our greatest tool when it comes to personal development. When you have greater awareness of yourself and your life, you can grow and open your eyes to see all the things about yourself that you may have just never looked at before.
It's important to know your triggers, what lights you up, and what your dreams are. These are the key things that will help you navigate through and create that version of yourself and the life that you want. Building self-awareness can be uncomfortable at first, but ultimately, doing that mindset and self-care work to know yourself and building that awareness through treating yourself with kindness is the best way to build that internal confidence.
External Confidence: Going After What You Want
The second type of confidence is external confidence, which is all about going after or creating what you want for yourself. It includes how you dress, how you present yourself, how you take care of yourself, your goals, and the dreams you are trying to achieve.
To grow your external confidence, you need to start by understanding why you want what you want. That will help you build awareness and make it easier for you to go after your goals because knowing why can be a huge motivator and inspire you to keep taking action.
Push Yourself Out of Your Comfort Zone
It's also essential to push yourself out of your comfort zone and go after something that you've always wanted. If you're willing to practice courage and face your fears over and over, that's where confidence is built. It's where your goals and dreams start becoming a reality.
Taking action is key when it comes to building external confidence. You need to make that action as simple and as messy as possible. And when I say messy, I mean imperfect. You don't have to wait for perfection to take action.
Sending You Love,
XO,
