Episode 6 of Own Your Confidence Podcast: I Just Want To Feel Happy!

The pursuit of happiness is something that most of us can relate to. But what does it really mean to be happy? As a confidence coach, I've learned that happiness is not a destination that we can reach, but rather an emotion that we need to intentionally cultivate. It took me a long time to realize this, especially when I was struggling with depression.

In this blog post, I want to share with you my personal journey of cultivating happiness and give you some tips on how you can do the same.

Realizing that Happiness is an Emotion

When I was in the midst of my depression, I was always chasing after happiness. I thought that once I achieved my goals or got the things I wanted, I would finally be happy. But I soon realized that this was not the case. Happiness is not something that we can achieve or acquire like a possession. It is an emotion that comes and goes.

So, the first step in cultivating happiness is to realize that it is an emotion that we can experience. We need to allow ourselves to feel all emotions, including sadness and loneliness. By giving ourselves permission to feel negative emotions, we can move through them and make space for happiness to come in.

Defining What Happiness Means to You

The next step is to define what happiness means to you. What does it look like? What makes you happy? How do you feel when you are happy? By getting clear on these things, you can start intentionally cultivating happiness in your life.

For me, happiness means being content with who I am as a person and being able to show up authentically in my life. I feel happy when I am doing things that I love and spending time with people who lift me up. When I am happy, I feel a sense of joy and lightness in my body.

Grounding Yourself in Gratitude

Another way to cultivate happiness is to ground yourself in gratitude. Practicing gratitude means being thankful for what you have in your life and focusing on the positive things instead of the negative.

When you practice gratitude, you can start to appreciate yourself and see the positive things about yourself. By adding in one thing you are grateful for about yourself every day, you can boost your self-confidence and feel happier in your own skin.

In conclusion, cultivating happiness is not about achieving something or acquiring something external. It is about allowing yourself to feel all emotions, defining what happiness means to you, grounding yourself in gratitude, and allowing yourself to feel happy always. By following these steps, you can start to cultivate more happiness in your life and feel more content with who you are as a person.
